Clippers Claim Series Victory in Game Four
August 10, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
The Columbus Clippers finished their four-game series with the Durham Bulls on a high note tonight, taking the finale 5-4.
Eric Haase came through in the top of the ninth with his team-leading 16th homerun of the year to clinch the series win.
Yandy Diaz started the scoring in the first inning for Columbus with an RBI single to make it 1-0. Brandon Barnes then drove him in with a double for a 2-0 lead.
The Clippers added to that in the fourth when Eric Stamets drilled a two-run shot over the wall in left field to give his team a 4-0 advantage.
The bottom of the inning was not kind to the Clippers, however, as Nate Lowe and former Clipper Adam Moore each hit two-run homeruns of starter Ryan Merritt to tie things at 4-4.
Merritt would finish his day in the sixth, having allowed four earned runs on five hits, with a walk and four strikeouts in five and one-third innings.
Both teams were kept quiet after that, until Haase came to the plate as a pinch-hitter in the top of the ninth. He proceeded to launch a solo homerun down the left field line to give the Clippers a 5-4 lead.
Tyler Olson, who pitched a scoreless eighth for Columbus, did the same for two outs in the ninth before handing the ball to Ben Taylor, who secured the victory.
The Clippers will be back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Norfolk to take on the Tides at 7:05 p.m.
