Louisville Bats Notes: August 10

August 10, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: Louisville looks to get back in the win column after losing its first series in nearly a month, coming off a series defeat in three games against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Tonight, right-hander Lucas Sims makes his second start in a Louisville uniform and his first Bats start at Louisville Slugger Field since coming over in a trade on July 30 from the Atlanta Braves.

AGAINST LEHIGH VALLEY: The IronPigs come to Louisville Slugger Field for a three-game series, the final home series against a non-divisional opponent for the Bats in 2018. Lehigh Valley will also be the final International League club to pass through Louisville this season. During the teams' first matchup this season in early April, Lehigh Valley won 3 of 4 games during Louisville's first series of the season. The Bats won the most recent matchup, however, winning 5-4 in 10 innings on April 15 in LOU's first extra innings game under the new IL rules.

STILL WARM: Since falling to a season-high 20 games below the .500 mark (35-55) on July 16, the Bats are 16-7 in their last 23 games. Before the Bats had lost 4 of their last 5 games, they were 15-3 in an 18-game stretch from July 17 to August 3. That 18-game run was started by a 9-game winning streak from July 17-25, the club's longest win streak since the 2010 season.

WHAT'S IN A NAME: Tonight's listed starter for Lehigh Valley, left-hander Ranger Suarez , will be the first starting pitcher Louisville has faced who shares his first name with an MLB team since Angel Sanchez of the Indianapolis Indians faced Louisville on July 5, 2015.

40 QUALITY STARTS: Right-hander Tyler Mahle tossed the 40th quality start for Louisville pitching this season in his 2018 Bats debut. The Bats fell to 30-10 on the season when their starting pitcher makes a quality start. Mahle also became the 10th different starting pitcher to toss a quality start for Louisville this season.

SENIOR CIRCUIT: Louisville welcomes its first National League affiliated team to LSF since Indianapolis played a pair of games in Louisville on July 2-3. The Bats own a winning percentage against the NL-affiliated clubs this season, with a 14-12 (.538) record. The Bats are just 37-50 (.463) against AL-affiliated clubs this season.

SERIES STREAK SNAPPED: The Bats' streak of 6 consecutive series without a series loss was snapped last night after Pawtucket won 6-2, taking 2 of 3 games from the Bats. After being swept in 4 games vs. Columbus after the All-Star break on July 12-15, LOU took 2 of 3 at Rochester (7/16-7/18), swept 4 at Syracuse (7/19-7/22), won 3 of 4 against Buffalo (7/24-7/26), won 2 of 3 vs. Rochester (7/27-7/29), won 2 of 3 at Toledo (7/30-8/1), before splitting a 4-game series at Columbus (8/2-8/5).

-The Bats had won 5+ consecutive series for the first time since the 2010 season, the last time the Bats made the International League playoffs. In 2010, LOU won their first 7 series coming out of the All-Star break, taking 3 of 4 vs. Lehigh Valley (7/15-7/18), 3 of 4 at Charlotte (7/19-7/22), sweeping 3 at Gwinnett (7/23-7/25), sweeping 4 vs. Charlotte (7/27-7/30), taking 3 of 4 in a split-series against Columbus (7/31-8/4), sweeping 4 vs. Norfolk (8/5-8/8), and finally, sweeping 4 at Toledo (8/9-8/12) to start the second half that season with a 24-3 record.
