Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (48-61) dropped the series finale to the Norfolk Tides (63-44) by a score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
The Tides grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third as Henry Urrutia hit a solo shot off of Pigs starter Jesse Biddle and Dariel Alvarez came through with an RBI single.
Audry Perez's RBI single in the top of the sixth extended the Norfolk lead to 3-0.
In the top of the seventh, the Tides opened up a 4-0 advantage courtesy of a Dariel Alvarez sac fly.
Biddle (2-1) gave up the four runs on eight hits to go along with three walks and two strikeouts over 6.1 IP.
Making a spot start, Tides RHP Steve Johnson (n/d) tossed three scoreless innings and gave up just one hit.
The Pigs had two runners on with one out in the fourth and the bases loaded with one out in the sixth, but were unable to push a run across in either inning. In the sixth, Brian Bogusevic grounded into a 2-3 inning-ending double play.
RHP Richard Rodriguez (2.1 IP, 3 H, BB, 2 K) earned the win for Norfolk to improve to 1-0 on the year.
Lehigh Valley also had the bases loaded with one out in the eighth, but RHP Pedro Beato (1.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 2 K) was able to fan Bogusevic and Kelly Dugan to end the threat.
Logan Moore (3-4, 3B) and Chase Utley (2-3) combined for five of the IronPigs' nine hits.
RHP Colton Murray (2.2 IP, 3 K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
Tyler Henson extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double in the eighth.
The IronPigs will begin a 10-game road trip on Monday when they take on the Toledo Mud Hens in the first of a four-game set at Fifth Third Field at 7:00 p.m. RHP Alec Asher (3-6, 4.73 in Triple-A Round Rock) makes his IronPigs debut against Toledo RHP Tim Melville (4-9, 5.06).
