Rochester, NY (August 2, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the finale of a three-game series to the Rochester Red Wings, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field. Rochester scored five unearned runs off Taylor Hill in the third inning, capped by Xavier Avery's grand slam, lifting the Red Wings to the series win. Pat Dean threw a complete-game shutout for Rochester.

Rochester (56-52) started its third inning with a infield single by Doug Bernier. Danny Santana followed by reaching on a fielding error by second baseman Emmanuel Burriss. After another infield single, Hill got the next two batters to keep the bases loaded. With two outs, Hill walked Danny Ortiz to bring in the game's first run. Avery then followed with an opposite-field grand slam into the Chiefs bullpen in left field to give the Red Wings a 5-0 lead. All five runs were unearned against Hill.

Syracuse (43-67) surrendered the final run of the game in the sixth. Eric Farris singled to start the inning. After two outs, Santana hit a line drive back off of Hill, forcing the Syracuse starter to leave the game. Scott McGregor came in and allowed a James Beresford single to plate Farris and give Rochester a 6-0 lead.

Those runs were more than enough for Dean. The Red Wings left-hander struck out 10, walked two and allowed four hits in his second shutout of the year.

Syracuse returns home Monday for the first of seven straight games against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Stephen Strasburg makes his second rehab start for the Chiefs opposite Henry Owens for the PawSox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
