Sarnia Sting News Release

Sarnia Sting General Manager, Nick Sinclair and Head Coach, Trevor Letowski announced today that Stephen Pierog and Jakob Chychrun will join Daniel Nikandrov as Alternate Captains.

Since joining the Sting in November, former OHL Champion and Memorial Cup finalist, Stephen Pierog has proved himself as an integral piece of the team's leadership core. In his final OHL season, Pierog has established himself as a role model for a young Sarnia Sting team both on and off the ice.

Head Coach, Trevor Letowski comments, "Stephen has been a leader on our hockey club since the day we acquired him from Guelph. He is a 20 year old player who knows what it takes to win in this league. He leads both by example but is also a very vocal leader on our team."

Currently playing in his first season with the Sting, former first overall selection, Jakob Chychrun has showed poise beyond his years. As part of a young group moving forward, Chychrun will continue to be a leader for the Sting in years to come.

Letowski goes on to add, "With Jakob we feel that we have a very exciting talented group of young players and we feel he is someone who leads by example not only for those players but for our entire group. He does all the right things. He exemplifies every characteristic we want from our players. He is a great student, one of our top performers and has an outstanding work ethic."

Although the Sting have added letters to Pierog and Chychrun, Letowski is counting on every player to continue to be leaders in their own right.

"We really feel along with Daniel Nikandrov and Taylor Dupuis that Stephen and Jakob give us an excellent leadership group. However I feel it's important to note as well we have a real close knit dressing room and I think every one of our players are being counted on for leadership regardless if they wear a letter or not."
