Wolves Come up Short

The Sudbury Wolves welcomed their divisional rivals the Niagara IceDogs Friday night at the Sudbury Arena. The Sudbury Wolves showcased their final roster following the trade deadline with the newcomers REAGAN O'GRADY and CHARLEY GRAASKAMP making their debut. The Wolves battled hard but came up just short, falling 5-4 to the IceDogs.

The Wolves came out ready for a fight at the beginning of the game and looked like they were ready to go. Halfway through the first period rookie BRADY PATAKI found the back of the net for the Sudbury Wolves giving them a 1-0 lead. It did not take the IceDogs long to respond as CARTER VERHAEGHE, MIKKEL AAGAARD, and CHRISTOPHER PAQUETTE scored three quick goals back to back to give Niagara a 3-1 lead. Minutes later CARTER VERHAEGHE scored his second of the game to give the IceDogs a commanding 4-1 lead.

The Niagara IceDogs wasted no time with BRENDAN PERLINI scoring seconds into the second frame. The Wolves battled back to add two goals from KYLE CAPOBIANCO and PAVEL JENYS to cut the lead to 5-3 after forty minutes. Shots on goal at the end of the period were 32-22 in favour of the Niagara IceDogs.

The Sudbury Wolves battled through the third period keeping the IceDogs off the scoresheet. CHAD HEFFERNAN scored in the final minutes of the third giving the Wolves a last ditch effort to tie the game. The Wolves came up just short losing a tough one 5-4 with shots on goal 38-29 in favour of the IceDogs.

The Sudbury Wolves hit the road next weekend and are back on home ice on Friday, January 23rd at 7:30PM when the Saginaw Spirit come to town. Tickets are available at the Sudbury Arena Box Office, online at www.greatersudbury.ca or by calling 705-671-3000.
