Philadelphia Union Prepare for Celtic FC

CHESTER, Pa. (July 12, 2010) - Looking to rebound from a tough last minute loss on Saturday night against the San Jose Earthquakes, Philadelphia Union return to PPL Park on Wednesday night to host Celtic FC in the club's first ever international friendly at 8 p.m. EST. Three days later, on Saturday, July 17th, the Union return to league play against Toronto FC. The MLS game, scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST, will be broadcast live on 6abc.

Celtic FC come with a winning pedigree over the course of their 122-year history. Winners of 34 Scottish Cups and 42 League Championships, the club finished in second place in the Scottish Premier League last season. Chester is the first of three stops on the Hoops' United States tour, which also includes a match against Manchester United in Toronto on July 16th and at the Seattle Sounders on July 18th. Among the 27-man roster, Celtic count with Greek National Team forward Georgios Samaras and South Korea's Ki Sung-Yueng and Cha Du Ri.

The Union and Toronto have already met once this season, when Nowak's squad fell 2-1 to the Canadian team on April 15th. Toronto (6-4-4, 22 points) stand in third place in the Eastern Conference rankings, while the Union (3-8-2, 11 points) fell to last place after Saturday's loss, one point behind D.C. United and Kansas City Wizards.
