D.C. United Kicks off Habitat for Humanity Project Tuesday, July 13

Washington, D.C. (July 12, 2010) - As part of D.C. United's continued efforts to serve the greater Washington, DC community and through its United Builds program, the club will partner with Volkswagen and MLS W.O.R.K.S. to participate in three projects for Habitat for Humanity in Washington, Northern Virginia, and Montgomery County, Md.

United will kickoff a three-day, three-city build beginning in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, July 13. D.C. United players Clyde Simms, Devon McTavish, Troy Perkins, Adam Cristman and Chris Pontius will be on site to offer their assistance alongside staff and volunteers. On July 17, a second build will take place in Northern Virginia.

Habitat for Humanity's mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness by building decent, affordable and resource-efficient homes for people in need. Habitat for Humanity of Washington D.C. was founded in 1988, and since that time the organization has built more than 100 homes and renovated 75 low-income cooperative units in the District of Columbia. Similarly, the local Habitat chapters in Northern Virginia and Montgomery County, Md. have constructed and revitalized neighborhoods across the Metropolitan area though their efforts.
