
Pheasants Swept on Walk-Off Loss in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG, Manitoba. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants scored two runs against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Wednesday night to tie the game, but Amos Ramon's walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth gave Winnipeg a 3-2 victory and a three-game sweep of the Pheasants.
Superb starting pitching dominated from both sides. Pheasants starter Mitchell Clegg turned in a quality start through 6 2/3 innings, allowing just single runs in the third and fifth inning. He walked four and struck out three before yielding the ball to reliever Alan DeRatt (3-6).
Winnipeg starter Todd Privett pitched into the ninth inning, shutting out the Pheasants on seven hits for 8 1/3 innings, but took a no-decision.
Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead on Price Kendall's single in the third, and Josh Mazzola homered in the fifth for a 2-0 advantage. Mazzola is tied for the league lead with 16 home runs; six have come against the Pheasants.
With one out in the ninth, Cesar Nicolas doubled and Cristian Guerrero singled to set up the Pheasants rally. After Trevor Lawhorn struck out, Jake Taylor hit an infield single and Al Quintana lobbed a single ot left field to tie the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, Mike Coles led off with a single and tagged to second on a deep fly ball to center field by Mazzola. He scored on Ramon's single after an intentional walk to Kyle Day.
DeRatt suffered his first loss in relief while Chris Allen (5-5) earned the win.
Cory Morales, Jared Bolden, Taylor and Quintana each had two hits for the Pheasants.
The Pheasants, losers of five straight, will not play the Goldeyes again this season after 17 contests. Sioux Falls won just four of them.
Following a travel day on Thursday, the Pheasants return home for a six-game home stand, beginning with a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks that opens at 7:05 p.m on Friday, August 10, at Sioux Falls Stadium. Friday Fireworks follows the game, sponsored by Sanford Health and All-Star Fireworks.
