Blacksher, Offense Dominates Lincoln

LINCOLN, NE- The Wichita Wingnuts (45-32) defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs (31-46) at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night.

Leading 2-1 in the top of the eighth, the Wingnuts scored seven runs to break the game open. Wilberto Ortiz led off with a solo home run to deep left-center field. Ryan Khoury lined a single to center and advanced to second when Mike Conroy reached first on a sacrifice attempt and an error. Two batters later, Mark Wagner drilled a double to right-center that plated both Khoury and Conroy. Jessie Mier added an RBI double to right-center, while Jared McDonald capped off the rally with a monstrous three-run homer that cleared the Wingnuts' bullpen in right field.

Dillon Wilson threw two scoreless innings over the eighth and ninth to finish off the win.

Derek Blacksher started for the Wingnuts and earned the victory. Blacksher allowed one earned run on just two hits in six and two-thirds innings. Blacksher walked two and struck out a season-high eight batters.

Greg Porter drove in the first run of the night with a two-out, solo homer to right field in the top of the fourth.

Conroy singled home McDonald with a two-out, RBI single to center in the top of the fifth that made it 2-0.

Lincoln's only run came on a two-out, RBI double to left from Bryan Pounds in the bottom of the seventh. Following the hit, Jared Simon relieved Blacksher and retired Matt Forgatch on a flyout to center field that stranded the tying run on second base.

Justin Edwards started for Lincoln and took the loss. Edwards allowed four earned runs on eight hits in seven-plus innings. Edwards walked one and struck out four.

The Wingnuts now travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba for a three-game series against the Goldeyes. First pitch at Shaw Park on Thursday night is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Ryan Hinson will be on the mound for the Wingnuts.
