Hodsdon, Diablos Win Again To Move Past Laredo
August 8, 2012 - American Association (AA)
El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, TX- Scott Hodsdon pitched seven strong innings and the Diablos scored four runs in the fourth inning to win game one of a key three game series with the Laredo Lemurs by a final of 4-3.
Hodsdon (7-2) allowed all three runs for Laredo in the fifth inning, but was close to untouchable outside the one troublesome frame. The right-hander won his second straight start and has now thrown 26 innings total over his last three outings.
At the plate, El Paso also scored all of its runs in one inning, besting Laredo's three-run fifth by one to win the game. Jermy Acey, who finished the night 3-for-4, knocked in the game's first run with a single to left. Zane Chavez's two run triple made it 3-0, and Daniel Nelson snapped an 0-for-14 skid with an RBI double that proved to be the difference in the game.
The Lemurs also squandered several chances to score, stranding runners at second and third in both the third and fourth innings against Hodsdon. Those missed chances doomed starter Mark Haynes (3-6), who threw five and two thirds innings with four runs allowed.
The win moves El Paso into a virtual tie for second place in the South division with the Amarillo Sox, while also allowing the club to leapfrog Laredo for the first time in 2012. The Diablos are 34-38 and seven games back with 28 to play.
Game two of the three game series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start on Wednesday at Cohen Stadium.
