Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

GARY, Ind. - A day after the Sioux Falls Pheasants stymied the Gary SouthShore RailCats' bats, the RailCats returned the deed. The Pheasants fell in a 4-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon in Gary, halting a four-game winning streak.

Mike Rohde's two-run double in the second inning was all the offense the RailCats would need. Brad Boyer added a sacrifice fly in third, and Rohde drove in a run with a single in the sixth. Rohde was 3-for-3 with three RBI.

The Pheasants faced RailCats' starter Carlos Rivas (2-0) for the first time. Rivas led the RailCats staff with 6 2/3 shutout innings. The Pheasants mustered just four hits against Rivas and had five total in the game. Rivas walked one and struck out three.

The Pheasants' best chance to score came in the fourth inning. With Joe Anthonsen and Trevor Lawhorn at first and second with nobody out, Gus Milner hit a deep fly that appeared to be caught by right fielder Cristian Guerrero. But Guerrero mishandled the ball, and a logjam occurred on the bases. Anthonsen was caught in a rundown. Mark Shorey followed with a flyout and Brandon Sing grounded out to end the inning.

Adam Cowart (4-2) lost for the first time in six starts. He allowed all four runs in six innings, walked two and did not strike out anyone. Ryan Fleckenstein pitched two perfect innings in relief.

The Pheasants dropped their record to 22-27.

The four-game series continues at 5:10 p.m. on Monday, July 4 in Gary. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
