Wingnuts Win Unbelievable Game in KC

KANSAS CITY, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts won 10-9 over the Kansas City T-Bones at Community America Ballpark on Sunday night.

The Wingnuts rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to take seprate leads in the eighth and ninth innings, before holding on for the one-run win in the bottom of the ninth. Eight of the Wingnuts' 10 runs came on two-out hits.

With the game tied at 7-7, Jose Duran led off the top of the ninth with a line drive single to left field. Duran stole second base and advanced to third when T-Bones' reliever Kyle Dahman made an errant pickoff throw to second base. Mike Conroy drilled a deep flyball to straightaway center field that was caught on the warning track by Ray Sadler. Duran tagged from third and scored the go-ahead run. Later in the inning, Jorge Delgado doubled to right-center field to drive in two more runs and give the Wingnuts a 10-7 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jimmy Mojica drew a leadoff walk against Josh Dew, who had come on in relief of Marcos Tabata in the bottom of the eighth. After Rico Washington popped out to shortstop, Ray Sadler singled through the left side to bring the tying run to the plate. Dew retired Kala Ka'aihue when the T-Bones' first baseman swung at a 3-0 pitch and flied to shallow right field. Aharon Eggleston tripled to the fence in left-center to bring the T-Bones within one run, but Dew got Prentice Redman to fly out to left field to end the game.

Kansas City scored three in the bottom of the second, beginning with an errant pickoff throw from Wichita starter Ryan Hinson. Jeff Hulett capped off the inning with a two-run double to left field.

Redman and Mojica hit solo home runs, in the fourth and fifth innings respectively, to increase Kansas City's lead to five.

Wichita loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh against T-Bones' starter Kris Johnson. The Wingnuts' first run of the night scored when Edwin Bellorin hit into a double play. Josh Horn cut the deficit to 5-2 with a two-out, RBI single to right field.

Wichita rallied to load the bases with two outs in the top of the eighth against reliever Drew Graham. Josh Workman made it a 5-3 game, reaching on an infield, RBI single to third against new reliever Steven Stewart. Bellorin was next and cleared the bases with a double to the left-center field wall. Now leading 6-5, Horn delivered again with two outs, lining a single to right that plated Bellorin.

Tabata recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth before allowing back-to-back walks to Ka'aihue and Eggleston. Dew took over and allowed a walk to Redman that loaded the bases. Gerardo Caceres then singled to center to tie the game. After Jeff Hulett walked to re-load the bases, Dew struck out Bowden to keep the game tied.

Dew earned the win in relief, working one and one-third innings on 43 pitches.

Hinson took a no-decision, allowing five earned runs on five hits in seven innings. Hinson walked three and struck out two.

Johnson also took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on four hits in seven innings. Johnson walked four and struck out four.

Stewart took the loss in relief for the T-Bones. Richardson extended his hitting streak to 10 games in a row.
