Phantoms' Law named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Philadelphia Phantoms right wing Kirby Law has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending April 4, 2004. Law scored five goals in four games to help the Phantoms close in on the East Division championship.

Law began the week with back-to-back two-goal games, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Norfolk on Wednesday and twice more in a 4-1 triumph over Hershey on Friday. After being held off the scoresheet in Saturday's win at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he picked up another goal in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to Binghamton. Law scored his five goals on 16 shots and recorded a plus-6 rating for the week.

In recognition of his achievement, Law will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Philadelphia chapter of Special Olympics in Law's name.

Law currently ranks fifth in the AHL's scoring race with a career-high 71 points (30 goals, 41 assists) in 71 games. The sixth-year pro and native of McCreary, Man., represented the Phantoms at the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic, and has been a member of the Philadelphia organization since Mar. 14, 2000. He has totaled 129 goals and 143 assists for 272 points in 372 career AHL games, and has added one assist in nine NHL games with the Flyers.
