Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Phantoms were defeated by the Dubuque Fighting Saints in overtime Friday night in Youngstown's first road game of the season. Goaltender Ryan Bednard had a standout performance despite the loss, recording 43 saves.

Youngstown trailed 2-0 halfway through the third period, until a short-handed goal by defenseman Vas Kolias got the Phantoms on the board. Yushiro Hirano would add his second USHL goal just over two minutes later.

"Ryan Bednard was outstanding. We found a way to rally, but we can't rest on that and think moral victories are okay. This ice was tilted too heavily in [Dubuque's] favor tonight," said Phantoms bench boss John Wroblewski.

The two teams combined for 21 penalties, including a pair of ten minute misconducts for Youngstown's Sean Petrie and Dubuque's Captain Keegan Ford for fighting.

Keegan Ford scored the game's decisive goal at 2:36 of overtime, with Dubuque on the power play. Two of the Fighting Saint's goals came with Youngstown shorthanded.

The Phantoms will be back in action tomorrow night, October 17th, against the Green Bay Gamblers. Puck drop is set for 7:05 local time, 8:05 Eastern.
