Chicago Steel News Release
MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN - In their first of six consecutive road games, the Chicago Steel (3-4-0-0, 6 points) picked up a dominant 7-2 win Saturday over the Muskegon Lumberjacks (1-3-0-0, 2 points) at L.C. Walker Arena. Six different players scored for the Steel, who improved to 2-1-0-0 on the road this season.
Chicago opened up the scoring in the first period, as Tanner Laczynski fed a wide-open Karch Bachman in the slot for his first goal with the Steel. It looked as though Chicago would head to the locker room with a lead, but Lumberjacks center Collin Adams jammed the puck in from the low slot with just 0.3 seconds remaining in the period, tying the contest 1-1.
The Steel regained the lead in the second period, as Alex Frye scored his second goal of the weekend, burying a one-time shot on a pass from Niklas Lehtimaki past Lumberjacks netminder Devin Cooley at the 6:43 mark. Later in the period, Chicago center Jake Jaremko rang the puck off the far post and in to send the Steel to the second intermission with a 3-1 lead.
Chicago exploded in the third period, tallying a season-high four goals in the frame. With no traffic in front, Brandon Duhaime snuck a left point shot past Muskegon goalie Devin Cooley at 4:44. Lucas Michaud then scored his second goal of the season before Jaremko and Ruslan Rakhmatov each added power play scores to put the game away.
Jaremko's second goal of the night was both his 8th of the season and 5th on the power play, leading the USHL in both categories. Laczynski's two assists on the night tied him for the league lead with eight for the season.
Steel goaltender John Lethemon stopped 31 saves in the win.
Chicago continues the road swing next weekend with their first three-in-three of the season, visiting the Madison Capitols Friday and Sunday with a Saturday game at Green Bay sandwiched in between.
The Steel return home on Friday, November 6 for Military Appreciation Night against the Lumberjacks, starting the month that features seven home games. For more details or to purchase tickets, call 855-51-STEEL, visit the box office inside Fox Valley Ice Arena or visit ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com.
