Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel returned home Friday to Fox Valley Ice Arena for the first of six meetings this season against the Green Bay Gamblers. Two second period goals by Green Bay erased an early Chicago lead, as the Steel (2-4-0-0, 4 points) dropped a tight game to the Gamblers (2-3-0-1, 5 points) by a score of 2-1.

The Gamblers put the pressure on early, tallying the first six shots on goal. The Steel, however, were able to turn things around, outshooting Green Bay 11-3 for the rest of the period. Chicago center Alex Frye broke the deadlock at the 17:57 mark, rushing around a Gamblers defenseman and sliding a forehanded shot on the ice past Green Bay goaltender Adam Huska. The unassisted effort was Frye's first career USHL goal.

Green Bay tied the game in the second period, as former Steel forward Ryan Blankemeier snuck a wrist shot from the right circle past Chicago netminder Daniel Vladar. Less than four minutes later, Nick Poehling gave the Gamblers a 2-1 lead, screening Vladar and deflecting the puck into the net on the power play.

The Steel came into the final period hungry for an equalizer, pressuring with their speed to create multiple scoring chances. Chicago called a timeout with 1:23 remaining, pulling Vladar in favor of an extra attacker. Despite several close chances, Huska held his ground, allowing the Gamblers to escape with a 2-1 victory.

Vladar made 27 saves in the loss, while Huska stopped 25 shots.

Chicago's next six contests are on the road including Saturday's first meeting of the season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Faceoff is set for 7:15 p.m. ET. The Steel return home on Friday, November 6 for Military Appreciation Night against the Lumberjacks.
