PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Phantoms COO Frank Miceli revealed today that the Phantoms have established a unique partnership with the United States Army. The American Hockey League (AHL) club has "adopted" the 5th Platoon from the A Company's, 710th Brigade Support Battalion.

The Liquid Lead Platoon (rhymes with reed), as they are known, includes a host of Philadelphia natives. They are being deployed this week in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In advance of the yearlong overseas service, the Phantoms outfitted the Platoon with a selection of team shirts, hats and other garb. The team will continue to support the soldiers of the 5th Platoon during their service in the Middle East with correspondence and care packages. At upcoming games, Philadelphia fans will be encouraged to take part in the adoption by bringing items to be sent to the soldiers.

"The Phantoms are proud to be affiliated with these brave men and women," remarked Miceli. "We are looking forward to getting our fans involved with the effort of supporting these troops, and expect it to be a memorable experience."

The Phantoms web site, phantomshockey.com, will document the happenings of the Liquid Lead Platoon and will post journal entries and photos from the soldiers. In turn, the troops will be able to see the Phantoms hockey games live online thanks to the B2 Networks. B2, which distributes all AHL contests to computer and television screens around the world, will broadcast all Philadelphia games to the soldiers free of charge.

The Phantoms return home to the Wachovia Spectrum to host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Dollar Dog Night this Wednesday night at 7:05. As always, kids tickets for all Phantoms games are just $8.00. Purchase online at phantomshockey.com or to charge by phone, call (215) 336-2000, (856) 338-9000 or (302) 984-2000.
