Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Lookouts relief pitcher David Pfeiffer had a rare day in which he not only earned a win on the mound, but collected two hits, including a go-ahead RBI single in a 5-3 finish at AT&T Field on Thursday night.

The Smokies struck first in the second with a solo shot off of the bat of Brandon Guyer.

Chattanooga countered with two runs in the bottom portion of the second to take the lead. Jerry Sands led off with a single and advanced to second on an Eddy Perez walk. Jaime Pedroza followed with a bunt to put push both runners into scoring position. After a Kyle Russell strikeout, Matt Wallach ripped a single that caromed off of third baseman Russ Canzler to plate both runners.

Guyer struck again for Tennessee with a two-run shot in the fourth frame to give the Smokies a 3-2 edge.

A pivotal three-run inning in the bottom of the sixth gave the Lookouts the lead for good. Sands began the rally with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jaime Pedroza then walked and swiped second to put runners in scoring position. With two outs, a wild pitch by Chris Carpenter (8-6) on an intentional ball attempt tied up the score. After the intentional walk to Matt Wallach, Lookouts relief pitcher David Pfeiffer furthered the damage by hitting an RBI single. Dee Gordon then contributed with an infield single, which scored Wallach, to put the score at 5-3.

The Lookouts bullpen took the lead and held onto it. Jon Huber pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his 14th save of the season.

Pfeiffer (6-3) pitched two innings in relief to earn the win for Chattanooga.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Tennessee Smokies will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
