Smokies Announce Series Of Roster Moves Thursday

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, has added UTL David Macias to the active roster in advance of tonight's series opener with the Chattanooga Lookouts. In related roster moves, C Robinson Chirinos and UTL Jonathon Mota were promoted to Triple-A Iowa. Tennessee's roster stands at 23 active players.

Macias arrives to the Smokies from High-A Daytona, where he hit .223 (74-for-332) with three triples and two home runs. Macias was a First-Team All-SEC selection in 2008 while playing for the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. The Woodlands, Tex. native was selected by the Cubs in the 19th round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Chirinos heads to Iowa after hitting .318 in 77 games with the Smokies this season, with 15 home runs and 64 RBIs. The 2010 Southern League All-Star was named twice as the Southern League "Hitter of the Week," for the weeks of April 8-18 and July 12-18.

Mota heads to Iowa after only appearing in 10 games for the Smokies this year. In 23 at-bats, he was hitting .217 with two doubles and one RBI.
