BayBears, Diamondbacks Extend PDC Agreement

August 12, 2010 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release

On Wednesday, the Mobile BayBears and the Arizona Diamondbacks announced an extension in their Player Development Contract through the 2012 season.

The agreement is for a two-year extension to the club's current affiliation with the Diamondbacks, which was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2010 season.

"The BayBears and the D-backs have developed a strong partnership over the past four years and have watched many of our players promoted to the Major Leagues including Justin Upton, Mark Reynolds, Rusty Ryal and recently promoted pitcher Barry Enright," said BayBears President/COO Bill Shanahan. "We are excited to continue our relationship with the Diamondbacks."

A total of 18 players have been promoted to the big leagues since 2007 when the BayBears first became an Arizona affiliate, and this year's BayBears are the most exciting team yet as they look to capture a playoff spot. Led by first-year manager and former major league first baseman Rico Brogna, the BayBears sent nine players to the Southern League All Star Game while coming within just three games of capturing the first half South Division title. They've continued to surge in the second half and are currently in line for the South Division's second and final postseason berth.

"We are thrilled to be extending our agreement with the Mobile BayBears," said Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall. "It is an honor to be associated with an organization that is committed to the development of our players, while providing a first-class experience for its fans. The Mobile community is rich in baseball history, and we are proud to be contributors to that tradition."

The Diamondbacks currently have 16 players on its 40-man roster who have played for the BayBears. The BayBears are in the midst of a 10-game homestand with the Birmingham Barons entering town on Thursday night at 7:05 to open a five-game set. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, please call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
