Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS- In the first game of a five game series, the Mississippi Braves blasted the Montgomery Biscuits by scoring four times in the 5th inning and seven times in the 6th inning. All of the offensive productivity came on a night where starter, Julio Teheran was outstanding. Teheran struck out six men and earned his second win of the year. It was just the third win the Braves have had against Montgomery in eleven games this season. The win ended a three game losing streak for Mississippi and was the highest tally of runs the Braves have had in a game since June 17th at Carolina; a game they won 17-8.
The Biscuits scored first and for a short time had a 1-0 lead. John Matulia tripled in the 2nd inning and scored on a ground out by Chris De La Cruz. The lead remained for the Biscuits through the first four innings, as the Braves totaled just one hit in their first four at bats. That would all change an inning later.Â
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Jordan Schafer led off the inning with a walk. Michael Daniel reached on a fielders choice and set the table for Antoan Richardson. Richardson singled up the middle to score two runs to give Mississippi a 2-1 lead. Tyler Pasternicky then singled in a run. Willie Cabrera collected his first of two doubles and brought in a run to make the score 4-1.
Mississippi went on to send nine men to the plate in the inning and wouldn't look back.
An inning later, Jordan Schafer again led off the inning with a walk. Luis Bolivar and Michael Daniel singled to push the score to 5-1. After an Antoan Richardson walk, Tyler Pasternicky singled in a couple of runs to make the score 7-1. Willie Cabrera collected his league leading, thirty-seventh double of the year. Eric Duncan came up and tripled to score two more runs and the Braves had the Biscuits buried at that point. Leading 11-1, Mississippi was able to put it on cruise control. Both teams scored one more run, the Biscuits run coming in the 7th and the Braves answering in the bottom of the 7th.
Julio Teheran sat down thirteen batters in a row at one point and would turn in over to Jaye Chapman after seven innings. Chapman finished the game and retired six men in a row to finish the game. The two pitchers combined to strike out nine men.
The second game of this series will be tomorrow at 7:05. Mississippi has not determined a starter. Montgomery will throw RHP Justin Garcia (3-2; 4.73).Â
