Warren Peters gave the Flames the lead late in the third period as Quad City beat Houston 3-1 on Friday to finish a four-game home stand at 3-1-0-0. Brett Sutter also scored twice in the win for Quad City while Leland Irving turned aside 19 Houston shots.
In the first period, the Flames nabbed a 1-0 lead when Brett Sutter netted his second goal of the year. Sutter scored on a goal-mouth scramble following a centering feed from Brad Cole. Warren Peters earned the primary assist on the goal as he swatted at Cole's centering feed before Sutter jammed it home. The 1-0 lead held up through the opening 20 minutes while the Flames controlled play and outshot the Aeros 9-4.
The teams skated scoreless through the second period thanks largely to a Flames penalty kill that denied three Houston power plays.
The Aeros tied the game at 10:28 of the third period when Matt Beaudoin scored his first goal of the season by slamming home the rebound following a shot by Jason Deitsch during a 2-on-1 rush. The Flames bounced back to re-take the lead with 3:59 left in regulation. Warren Peters scored the goal by cutting wide on the Houston defense before driving to the front of the net. He potted his ninth goal of the season to put the Flames back in front at 2-1. Brett Sutter added an insurance goal into an empty net with just 14 seconds left in the contest.
The Flames visit Bleacher Bums on Monday night for another edition of the Budweiser Flames Forum. Ryan McGill, Brad Brown, Adam Cracknell and Gord Baldwin will appear on the show beginning at 6:00 p.m. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes from the Flames and Budweiser. The show can also be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC.
The Flames begin at nine-game road trip on Wednesday in Cleveland vs. the Lake Erie Monsters. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The game can be seen live for just $6.00 at ahllive.com. The contest can also be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC beginning at 6:35 p.m. with The Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show.
