Iowa Chops News Release
It was a goaltending duel on Saturday night in Des Moines between JP Levasseur of the Iowa Chops and Corey Schneider of the Manitoba Moose that resulted in a 2-1 shootout win for the Moose in front of 4,275 on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.
The Chops got off to a fast start in the 1st period, matching Manitoba shot for shot through the first five minutes of the game. After some opening saves from JP Levasseur, the Chops got on the board first as Troy Bodie scored his second goal in as many nights to give the Chops a 1-0 lead as he took a pass from the newest Iowa Chops player Pierre-Luc O'Brien and beat Moose goaltender Corey Schneider over the shoulder. Francis Wathier also assisted on the play. Levasseur made the lead hold through the end of the period despite a Moose 9-6 shot advtange.
The Chops battled hard in the 2nd period with more big saves from Levasseur, who single-handedly kept the Chops in the game. However, much like Friday night Manitoba would score the game-tying goal late in the period as Alexandre Bolduc found himself open on the backdoor and smashed home a loose puck. The Chops best chance in the period came on a late power play, but a back door one-timer by Eric Boguniecki was snuffed out by the right leg of Schneider to keep the game tied 1-1 after two periods of play.
The Iowa Chops had to kill off four 3rd period power plays and were again by more great saves from Levasseur. The Chops had their own power play chances as the game wound down and then into overtime, but could not convert sending the game into a shootout.
In the shootout, the battle of the goaltenders went to Schneider as he shut the door on all four Iowa Chops shooters, while Levasseur surrendered goals to Mike Keane and Alexandre Bolduc giving the Moose the 2-1 shootout win.
With the shootout loss, the Iowa Chops gained a point in the standings and finished the season series against Manitoba a repsectable 1-1-2.
