Perry Twirls Gem as Spikes Blank Jammers, 6-0

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Chris Perry earned his first professional victory with seven shutout innings on the mound as the State College Spikes topped the Jamestown Jammers, 6-0, on Monday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Perry (1-0), the Cardinals' 17th-round draft choice in 2012, held Jamestown (5-3) to just two hits, one walk and a hit batsman in his time on the mound. The righty also picked Jimmy Rider off second base in the third inning. The outing was the longest for any State College (5-3) pitcher since Kyle McPherson went seven innings against Williamsport on September 2, 2009.

Mitch Harris and Kyle Webb finished off the shutout for the Spikes, with each tossing an inning apiece.

Jimmy Bosco also smashed his first professional home run for State College, a solo shot in the fourth inning off Jammers reliever Shane Carle, as part of a multi-hit night. David Washington added a pair of runs batted in as part of a 2-for-3 performance.

The Spikes broke the game open early, scoring four runs in the first inning and chasing Jamestown starter Dovydas Neverauskas (0-1) from the game after just two-thirds of an inning. Neverauskas was tagged for all four runs, but charged with just two earned runs, on two hits, a walk and two hit batsmen.

Edwin Espinal and former Spike Jesus Vasquez had the lone hits for the Jammers.

Tuesday, the Spikes and Jammers finish off their three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with sole possession of first place in the Pinckney Division on the line. State College will go with a "piggyback" setup on the mound, with right-hander Kevin Herget (1-0) being followed by left-hander Jimmy Reed (0-0). Herget got his first pro win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief this past Wednesday. Jamestown will give the ball to southpaw Cody Dickson (0-0).

The first 500 fans of all ages will receive a cool Spikes t- shirt presented by Penn State Sports Medicine on T- Shirt Tuesday. It's also the first Yuengling Happy Hour of the year, and some folks might need to drown their sorrows as the Spikes pay their Tribute to Bad Break-Ups. Couples counseling will be a must as the Spikes spotlight some of the most sour splits ever during the battle between the future Cards and future Bucs.
