Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

NILES, Ohio- Fans of great pitching were given a treat at Eastwood Field, as the Scrappers fell to the Auburn DoubleDays 2-1 tonight. Mahoning Valley saw two big leaguers pitch in relief appearances against Auburn, as Tribe hurlers Brett Myers and Blake Wood worked the 2nd and 3rd innings.

The Scrappers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but rallied in the 6th inning on an RBI single by Robel Garcia. Auburn reclaimed the lead the following half inning. A Jimmy Yezzo single followed by a Jean Valdez single gave the Doubledays a 2-1 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

Auburn reliever earned the victory, as the Doubledays brought three southpaws out to face Mahoning Valley batters, which held the Scrappers in check. Sinkerball hurler L.J. Hollins earned his second save on the year. Robert Whitenack gets the loss for Mahoning Valley; he is now 0-1 on the season.

The Scrappers will face Auburn again tomorrow for the final of a three game set between the two teams. Indians closer Chris Perez is scheduled to make a rehab appearance for the Scrappers Tuesday. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
