Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Bierfeldt's career day helps IronBirds win
IronBirds' RF Conor Bierfeldt had a big day at the plate, helping the IronBirds claim their second straight win after starting 0-5. Bierfeldt homered in the second, had an RBI double and scored in the fourth, doubled and scored in the eighth, and walked in the ninth. The only time he was retired was a swinging strikeout in the fifth. Bierfeldt raised his average from .125 to .250.
Big eighth inning takes advantage of opportunities
In the eighth inning yesterday, the IronBirds had only two hits. But, they took advantage of a Staten Island error, four walks, and a hit batter. All told, Aberdeen sent eleven batters to the plate, scoring six runs, and breaking open what was previously a one run game.
Taxing the bullpen
Staten Island Yankees manager Justin Pope used six pitchers in yesterday's game. RHP Philip Walby got the ball for his first professional start. He was lifted after just two innings. Caleb Smith, Kelvin Castro, Sam Agnew-Wieland, Andury Acevedo, and Dillon McNamara all pitched in relief. Agnew-Wieland took the loss for Staten Island.
Severino rebounds
IronBirds RHP Janser Severino came on in relief of starter David Richardson in the fourth inning yesterday. After taking the loss on Friday night, Severino pitched well on Sunday. He pitched three innings of relief, allowed just one hit and two walks, striking out three. Michael Joseph got the win for Aberdeen, pitching the final three innings of the game.
On the mound tonight...
LHP Luc Rennie will make his second start of the season tonight. He started the series finale against the Hudson Valley Renegades last Wednesday, going four and two thirds innings, allowing five hits, one run, walking three and striking out seven. Rennie was the 16th round selection for the Baltimore Orioles in the 2012 draft. Opposing him will be RHP Jairo Heredia. Heredia last pitched on Wednesday against Brooklyn, going four innings and allowing just one hit, striking out four.
Take me home
After tomorrow night's game, the IronBirds will board the bus and head home for a five game home stand against the Cyclones and Yankees. The Cyclones will be in town for two quick games, while the Yankees will be at Ripken Stadium for three, beginning Friday night.
