Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Defenseman Brian Dumoulin made it back-to-back game-winning goals as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins outlasted the Adirondack Phantoms, 2-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
For the second straight night, the Penguins struck early on the power play in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. At 6:19, Paul Thompson came from behind the net on the near side and on his second attempt, pushed the past Phantom goalie Scott Munroe for his 11th goal of the year.
The Phantoms would knot the game up at 8:26 of the second period. Marcel Noebels scored his first goal of the season lifting a backhanded rebound shot over the shoulder of Brad Thiessen.
With 2:18 remaining until the intermission, Dumoulin put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead for good with his fourth goal of the season. Brian Gibbons raced down the right wing into the Phantoms zone, pulled up at the circle and fed the puck to a trailing Dumoulin in the slot. The Penguins blueliner wristed the decisive tally over the glove of Munroe for his second game-winner in as many nights.
Thiessen won his second consecutive start with 22 saves on 23 shots. Munroe also stopped 22 for the Phantoms.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins travel to take on the Norfolk Admirals on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:15.
