Providence Bruins News Release
Springfield, MA -- The Providence Bruins fell to the Springfield Falcons 4-2 this evening at The Times MassMutual Center falling to 18-14-0-2 on the season. Michael Hutchinson posted 32 saves in the loss and Torey Krug scored his second goal in as many nights and one of the Bruins newest players, Wes O'Neill potted his first AHL goal of the season and his first as a Bruin.
In the first period, Springfield kick-started the scoring with Ryan Craig's 11th goal of the season. Craig tapped in a pass from Nick Drazenovic on the doorstep at 7:32 of the first to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Rookie Krug answered nearly five minutes later when Allen York's blocker was too slow for Krug's snap shot from the slot. Max Sauv é and Trent Whitfield assisted on the play. The assists marked the third in two nights for Sauv é and the second for Whitfield.
The Bruins weren't able to hold off the Falcons for longs as Cody Goloubef scored his first goal of the season when his shot from the point found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.
In the second, the Bruins struggled to get shots on net. Instead Jonathan Audy-Machessault gave the Falcons a 3-1 lead at 19:40 of the second frame, tallying his 12th goal of the season. Audy-Marchessault struck again at 8:26 of the third period, firing a puck from the right circle, to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead.
The Bruins attempted a last ditch effort, applying pressure on the Falcons defense and testing York. Wes O'Neill, who was signed to a PTO this afternoon, found the back of the net with nine seconds to play off a pass from Justin Florek. The effort proved to be too little too late as the Bruins fell 4-2.
The Bruins return to The Dunk Sunday for a matinee matchup with the Manchester Monarchs. The puck drops at 3:05 p.m. for "Chip Clip Day." The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a free chip clip courtesy of Walgreens . The P-Bruins' complete season schedule can be found on www.providencebruins.com .
