Crunch Win Streak Snapped by Rochester

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch saw their five-game win streak by virtue of a 4-1 loss to the Rochester Americans tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Brett Connolly scored the Crunch's only goal in the Crunch's first loss of the 2013 calendar year. The Crunch remain in first place but fall to to 24-8-2-3 overall and 8-5-2-1 at the War Memorial. Crunch netminder Riku Helenius stopped 27 of 31 shots faced in his first start since December, 29.

After a scoreless first period the Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from former Crunch forward Rick Schofield at the 5:11 mark of the second period and a power-play tally from Nick Tarnasky 13:26 into the second.

Brett Connolly got the Crunch on the board with a power-play goal 13:26 to play in the final frame. Connolly batted a loose puck past Amerks netminder David Leggio to cut Rochester's lead to one. Assists went to Alex Killorn and Ondrej Palat.

Rochester's Kevin Porter and T.J. Brennan also tallied in the third period for a final score of 4-1. Porter's goal at the 10:47 mark of the third was assisted by Brennan and Alex Biega. Brennan's tally was a power-play goal that came 15:11 into the third period, assisted by Mark Mancari and Luke Adam.

The Crunch and Amerks clash again on Friday, Jan. 18 in Rochester.
