Penguins Sign Shamanski to PTO

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today announced that they have signed defenseman Steven Shamanski to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Shamanski, 25, has played in 68 games this season for the ECHL's Elmira Jackals, recording 14 goals, 24 assists and 58 penalty minutes. A first-year pro from Cranberry, Manitoba, Shamanski ranked fourth on the Jackals in points (38) and was third among ECHL defensemen in goals (14).

He represented the Jackals at the 2015 ECHL All-Star Game and set a new Elmira single-season record for goals scored by a defenseman. Shamanski has also appeared in one game each this year with the Rochester Americans and Springfield Falcons (AHL).

Shamanski was a four-year letterman at Providence College from 2010-14, totaling 36 points (11G-25A) and 129 PIM over 141 games. During his senior year in 2013-14, he helped the Friars to their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2001.

Prior to his collegiate career, Shamanski capped off three years in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League by helping the Dauphin Kings to the 2010 MJHL Championship, leading league defensemen with 19 goals, 52 assists and 71 points and earning MJHL Player of the Year honors.
