Penguins Reduce Training Camp Roster by Seven

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have assigned seven players to Wheeling of the East Coast Hockey League, it was announced today by Head Coach Glenn Patrick.

Goaltender Mike Valley, defensemen Jeff Cameron and Mario Larocque and forwards Steve Crampton, Brian Cummings, Arpad Mihaly and Zenon Konopka were assigned to the Nailers.

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Penguins assigned 11 players, including five former first round picks to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate. Forwards Colby Armstrong (Pittsburgh 1st choice, 21st overall, in 2001 Entry Draft), Kris Beech (Washington's 1st choice, 7th overall, in 1999 Entry Draft), Shane Endicott, Milan Kraft (Pittsburgh's 1st choice, 23rd overall, in 1998 Entry Draft), Konstantin Koltsov (Pittsburgh's 1st choice, 18th overall, in 1999 Entry Draft), Eric Meloche, Toby Petersen and Michal Sivek and defensemen Ross Lupaschuk, Brooks Orpik (Pittsburgh's 1st choice, 18th overall, in 2000 Entry Draft) and Robert Scuderi were assigned to Wilkes-Barre.

The Penguins roster now stands at 26 and consists of 17 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

The Penguins will practice each day this week at 10:00 a.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

The Penguins will open their fourth AHL season on Thursday (October 10) against the St. John's Maple Leafs at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

Plenty good seats are still available for the Penguins' first three home games of the season. Approximately 170 tickets are still available for the season opener against the Maple Leafs and about 200 tickets are left for the Oct. 12 game versus the Hershey Bears (7:05 p.m. start). The Penguins will close out their first homestand of the season on Monday, October 14 against the Maple Leafs (7:05 p.m. start). There are about 600 tickets still available for the Columbus Day game. Tickets for all Penguins games are on sale and can be purchased at the First Union Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations and telephone outlets. Ticket prices for the Penguins' 2002-03 season are set at $29.25 (Yellow Zone), $18.75 (Red Zone), $16.75 (Gold Zone) and $12.50 (Blue Zone). The First Union Arena Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Payment accepted at the Arena Box Office includes cash, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. The First Union Arena Box Office does not accept telephone orders or personal checks.
