Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Goals from Chris Durno and Brandon Bochenski were not enough as the Admirals fell to the Penguins 4-2 on Friday night in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Admirals limit the Penguins to only one shot, Wilkes-Barre charged out of the gates after the first intermission with 19 shots in the second stanza. Strong netminding by Sebastien Caron gave the Admirals the opportunity to take a 1-0 lead midway through the period. Reed Low dropped a pass at the blueline for Chris Durno, who sent a snap shot from the top of the right circle that beat Penguins goaltender Jeff Deslauriers at 8:23.
Wilkes-Barre tied the game late in the second period, as Jonathan Filewich sent a backhand shot past Caron at 19:03. The East Division rivals were tied at 1-1 after forty minutes.
Tyler Kennedy's power play goal 3:34 into the third period gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead. However, Brandon Bochenski's team-leading fourteenth goal of the season knotted the score at 2-2 seven minutes later. Bochenski sped over the blue line with a defender draped on his back and sent a snap shot five hole on Deslauriers while being cross-checked to the ice at 11:19.
Marc-Antoine Pouliot gave Wilkes-Barre the lead for good four minutes later. Pouliot converted a Jean-Francois Jacques cross-ice feed for a goal at 15:18. Jacques tacked on an empty-net goal with eight seconds remaining to give the Penguins a 4-2 victory.
Sebastien Caron stopped 25 of 28 shots and was saddled with the loss. Jeff Deslauriers saw 24 shots and made 22 saves to earn the victory.
The Admirals were 0-2 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre was 1-5.
With the loss tonight, the Admirals (13-3-2-1) and Penguins (14-3-1-0) both have 29 points and are tied for the East Division lead.
The Admirals return to Scope tomorrow for a 7:15 contest against another big East Division rival - the Philadelphia Phantoms.
