Stars falter in Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY - The Stars played the third game of their six-game road trip in Rochester, New York against the Rochester Americans on Friday night. Unable to win their third straight road game, the Stars fell to the AHL's number one ranked team, 5-2.

The game's opening period saw the Americans score three times on the Iowa Stars. Greg Jacina gave the Americans a 1-0 lead with his seventh of the season at 5:49. Just under six minutes later, Brandon Smith registered a power-play goal. Mark Mancari had the third goal of the period at the 15:26 mark. At that time Iowa Stars Head Coach Dave Allison replaced netminder Dan Ellis with Tobias Stephan.

Rochester padded their lead with two additional goals in the second period, including Jacina's second of the game. The Stars ended the shutout bid of Rochester netminder Adam Dennis at the 7:45 mark of the middle stanza. Rookie Chris Conner potted his fifth of the season to get Iowa on the scoreboard. Joel Lundqvist and Defenseman Mark Fistric had the assists. Iowa scored their second of the game when rookie Marty Sertich registered his seventh tally of the season. The unassisted goal came with 6:33 left in the second period.

The two teams held each other scoreless in the third period. Iowa out-shot the Americans 11 to 7 in the final period.

Iowa was 0 for 2 on the power-play while Rochester was 2 for 5.

IOWA STARS INFO: The Stars play in Chicago on Sunday at 4:00 PM and play in Chicago again on Wednesday. Wednesday's game time is 7:00 PM. Iowa returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday December 2nd against the Peoria Rivermen. Game time is 7:00 PM. It will be the first time Iowa will wear their new black third jersey in game action.
