Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, were defeated 3-2 by the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got a pair of goals from forward Kris Versteeg, who now has a team-leading nine and 21 points.
Hartford opened the scoring 7:57 into the first period when Jarkko Immonen took advantage of an early and brief power play opportunity. The Wolf Pack, after 4-on-4 play expired, took just three seconds of a 17-second power play to put hom Immonen's third goal of the year to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. Providence answered back with 2:52 remaining in the first, with Versteeg positioning himself perfectly right of the net to rebound a Pascal Pelletier shot past goalie Steve Valiquette. Pelletier had the only helper.
The second period was much like the first, with Ryan Callahan scoring his team-leading 13th goal of the season 8:41 in to give the Wolf Pack a 2-1 advantage before Versteeg again answered back, once more with a rebound opportunity. This time, with 4:35 left in the second, Versteeg was left of the net to rebound a Yan Stastny shot, also giving Ben Walter an assist, to tie the game at two.
The final period produced just one score, another by Immonen and again on the power play, this time 1:13 into the frame to capitalize on a Sean Curry roughing penalty suffered at the close of the second period.
Providence out-shot Hartford 35-21, with Hannu Toivonen knocking aside 18 shots to the 33 saves made by Valiquette. The P-Bruins were scoreless in six power play chances while allowing two man-advantage goals in three penalty kill opportunities.
The Providence Bruins get back to action Saturday, November 25 against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, November 26 versus the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. Information on tickets and Providence Bruins season ticket packages for the 2006-07 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
