Penalties Prove Problematic as Chiefs Fall to Blazers, 5-1
October 29, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Kamloops, B.C. - Penalties proved problematic as The Spokane Chiefs dropped their fourth-straight to the Kamloops Blazers on the road Friday night, 5-1. Four of Kamloops' five goals were on the man advantage, as Spokane took 54 penalty minutes over the course of the game.
The Blazers got off to a hot start as Cedar Bankier notched his ninth goal of the year just 14 seconds into the game.
Kamloops then padded the lead to 4-0 with three unanswered power play goals throughout the first period (Dylan Kuefler, Logan Stankoven and Kyle Masters).
The Chiefs got on the board with about a minute and a half left in the second period as defenseman Graham Sward pushed the puck up the ice to Jake Gudelj, who found the twine for his third goal of the season.

That'd be as close as Spokane got though, as the Blazers capped the night's scoring at 5-1 with another Stankoven power play goal at 3:18 in the third period.
The Chiefs struggled with special teams, going 0-for-3 on the power play and 7-for-11 on the penalty kill. They were outshot by Kamloops, 62-23.
Mason Beaupit stopped 57 shots, including a perfect 18 in the second period, and posted a new high for the season.
Up next, the two teams will face each other once again on Saturday, October 29, this time at Spokane Arena. It's the Chiefs' Fright Night and Halloween Celebration, so be sure to wear your best Halloween costume!
