Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - Despite a brilliant outing in his first start by goaltender Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) the Medicine Hat Tigers fell in a defensive battle to the Saskatoon Blades 2-1 Friday night at Co-op Place.

It was a back-and-fourth affair all night between the Blades and Tigers with May and Blades goaltender Austin Elliott being perfect in net through 40 minutes. Bogdan Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) thought he had scored just 16 seconds into the 2nd but a offside review benefitted the Blades and the goal was waived off. The Tigers would kill off a double minor high sticking infraction to Brayden Boehm and Shane Smith. The penalty kill along with timely saves by Evan May kept the Blades at bay.

Off to the third period and the misfortune of penalties would eventually lead to the puck finding a way past Evan May at 9:52 with just six seconds left on an Andrew Basha tripping call, David Parr one-timed home his 2nd of the season to give the Blades a 1-0 lead. Just minutes later the Blades would get another opportunity at another 5 on 3 with Bogdans Hodass and Brenden Lee sitting in the box, Parr would score his second of the period and third of the season to give the Blades all they'd need to insure the victory.

Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would score on a later power play of the Tigers own for his fifth of the year with just 6.8 seconds left in the game to break Elliott's shutout streak but it wouldn't be enough as the final horn sounded.

Special teams ended up being the difference tonight as the Tigers were 1/2 on the power play and the Blades were 2/7.

The final shots on goal ended up in a slight edge for Saskatoon 31 to 29.

The Tigers are back on home ice tomorrow night looking to bounce back against the Victoria Royals. Puck-drop is set for 7:05 PM Get your tickets now at tixx.ca
