Prince Albert Raiders News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders saw their losing streak extend to three games on Saturday night falling 5-4 to the Swift Current Broncos, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. Four different Raiders found the goal sheet in the loss, while Caleb Wyrostok led the way for the Broncos with two goals.

It was a mild start to the first period, with just nine combined shots on goal for both teams through the first ten minutes. The Raiders and Broncos failed to score on their lone powerplay chances in the opening frame, but the scoring came in one big bunch near the tail end of the period.

Harrison Lodewyk lit the lamp for the first time this season with 2:54 left in the first. The forward crashed the net with the puck on his stick, cutting from his forehand to his backhand. Shoveling a shot on goal, Gage Alexander had made an original save, but a follow up effort from Lodewyk was good enough to beat the goaltender. The net came dislodged on the play, and a video review was required, but the call on the ice stood as a good goal, and the Raiders went in front 1-0.

That lead didn't last long, as Caleb Wyrostok tied things up for the Broncos. A point shot from Owen Pickering was tipped in front by Wyrostok and found a way past Tikhon Chaika. His second goal of the year put the game back to square one, deadlocked at 1-1.

With 30 seconds left in the first, the Raiders jumped back out in front. Sloan Stanick led a rush down the right wing, and hammered a pass in front of the net, where Keaton Sorensen was waiting on the doorstep. The overage forward redirected the pass in the net for his fifth goal of the season. Ryder Ritchie picked up his team rookie leading seventh point of the season with the secondary assist on the play.

Leading 13-10 in shots after the opening 20 minutes, Prince Albert took a 2-1 lead into the middle frame.

The Broncos scored the only two goals of the second period, taking a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. The goals came 13 seconds apart, scored by Wyrostok and Josh Filmon. Wyrostok's tally was a rocket shot from in close, hitting iron and going in. Filmon's bid was a tricky backhand shot from far out that Chaika couldn't track to give the Broncos their first lead of the night.

Through two periods, the Raiders had two 5 on 3 powerplay chances, but failed to score on either one. Wyrostok's second period goal was a powerplay marker for the Broncos. Despite trailing heading into the third period, the Raiders held a comfortable 25-16 lead in shots on goal.

Four goals were scored in the third period, two from each team. Carson Latimer got things going in the third with a sharp angle goal for his third of the season to tie things at 3-3. Connor Hvidston answered seven minutes later with a snipe from in close to give the Broncos a 4-3 lead.

With under three minutes to go, Carter Anderson scored his first goal as a Raider on a feed from Latimer down low, tying things up at 4-4. However, Mathew Ward scored less than 30 seconds later to put Swift Current back on top 5-4 with just over two minutes remaining. The Raiders couldn't find another goal late in the game, as the Broncos held on for a 5-4 win.

Next up for the Raiders is a game on Tuesday night when they welcome the Tri-City Americans to the Art Hauser Centre for the first time since 2019. Puck drop is 7pm.
