Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today that they have signed former Major Leaguer and FSU standout Marshall McDougall to contract for the remainder of the 2009 season. Third baseman McDougall brings an impressive bat to the Pelicans as they make a push for the playoffs.

Marshall McDougall comes to Pensacola from Reynosa of the triple-A Mexican League. This season, McDougall has hit 20 home runs and 20 doubles for Reynosa, while batting .286 and driving in 86 runs. He also stole nine bases.

Marshall McDougall is no stranger to the Florida baseball world. Born in Jacksonville, McDougall played for Florida State in 1999 and 2000. The 1999 Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series also was a first team All-American and a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. In 1999, McDougall had a record-breaking game on May 9 against Maryland: 7-7 with six home runs, 16 RBI, and 25 total bases.

Drafted in the ninth round by the Oakland Athletics in 2000, McDougall came to the Texas Rangers organization via the 2002 Rule 5 draft, essentially guaranteeing him a roster spot for the season. McDougall rose to triple-A the next year. In 2005, McDougall had his best year with the triple-A Oklahoma Redhawks batting .341 with 11 home runs and 64 RBI before making it to The Show.

Marshall McDougall made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers on June 7, 2005. After three more stints in triple-A in 2006, 2007, and 2008, McDougall started the 2009 season with Reynosa in Mexico. Playing for the triple-A Mexican team, McDougall hit his 100th career home run this season. On his career, McDougall has hit 112 round trippers, 207 doubles, and has stolen 65 bases while driving in 576 runs.

In other transactions, the Pelicans released Luis Guance, keeping the roster total at 21, one shy of the league limit. Pensacola is currently in first place in the South Division of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. Tickets are very affordable, beginning as low as $7. Tickets are available at Pensacola-area Circle K locations, or online at www.pensacolapelicans.com. Phone orders may be placed by calling (850) 934-8444.
