El Paso Diablos News Release
Sioux City, IA - Juan Camacho hit a home run in the 12th inning to lift El Paso to a 4-3 win over his former team at Lewis and Clark Park on Tuesday night. The win is the third in a row for El Paso and they now climb to within four games of first place.
El Paso took an early lead in the ball game when Eddy Rodriguez put the Diablos up 1-0 with his fifth home run of the season to lead off the third inning. El Paso squandered a chance for more when they failed to score any runs after loading up the bases with no outs in the same inning. The game would remain 1-0 until the seventh inning when the X's loaded up the bases with two outs and Greg Stevens emptied the bases and put Sioux City on top 3-1. Jorge Alvarez would lead the charge back by doubling and scoring a run in the eighth and laid down a two out bases loaded bunt single in the ninth to tie it. Jeff Vincent threw out the, would be, winning run at the plate in the ninth inning when Rodriguez held onto a ball in a collision at the plate. That set up Camacho to win the game as he hit his ninth home run of the season in the 12th inning.
El Paso enjoyed very good pitching throughout the night as Clegg Snipes made a very good pounce back start, pitching into the seventh inning and allowing only one run on five hits. Joe Klein (4-4) came in and got the final out of the ninth and pitched two scoreless innings in the extra session to pick up the win. Mike Cervera picked up his second save in as many days and his sixth this season by tossing a scoreless 12th inning.
The El Paso offense was able to work for 10 hits and eight walks on the night. Alvarez, Camacho, and Rodriguez had multi-hit games while Kennard Bibbs had a single and three walks on the night.
El Paso looks for the series sweep on Wednesday night as they send Bryan Villalona (1-2, 6.75) to the mound against Ryan Harris (1-1, 5.87). Fans can follow along by listening online at www.diablos.com .
