
Saltdogs Comeback on Wingnuts

LINCOLN, NE- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 5-3 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Tuesday night. Wichita led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Saltdogs scored five unanswered runs over their final three at bats. Wichita out-hit Lincoln 11 to 6, but left 10 runners on base in the loss.
Greg Porter hit a line drive home run to right field in the top of the first to give the Wingnuts the lead. It was Porter's 17th of the year, tying him with Kelly Hunt for the league lead.
In the second, Michael Sharp reached on a passed ball after striking out. Brenan Herrera singled Sharp to third and then Josh Horn lined a single to right field that scored Sharp and made it 2-0.
The Wingnuts scratched across another run in the fourth inning. After loading the bases with two outs, Patrick Brooks hit a slow roller up the third base line that resulted in an infield single to move the Wingnuts ahead 3-0.
Gabe Medina threw shutout ball over the first five innings before a wild pitch and an RBI single from Phil Hawke in the sixth inning cut the lead to 3-2.
The Saltdogs took the lead for good in the seventh when Brandon Jones dumped a two-run single into short center, scoring runners from second and third base. Gavin Dickey drove in an insurance run in the eighth inning on a bloop single to right field.
Wichita brough the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth against Lincoln closer Chris Thompson before the right-hander locked down his league leading 26th save.
Medina took the loss, allowing four runs on just four hits in six-plus innings. Adam Daniels earned the win in relief retiring all four batters to face him.
Steve Pearson went 0 for 4, ending his consecutive on-base streak at 35 games in a row, a new Wingnuts' club record.
