Fort Worth Cats News Release

Bryan Sabatella was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in as the Captains downed the Cats 9-1 on Tuesday night at Fair Grounds Field.

Shreveport-Bossier scored an unearned run in the first inning as Cats' starter Lee Gwaltney walked the first two batters he faced before Christopher Garcia hit a grounder that was misplayed by second baseman Isa Garcia, allowing Sabatella to score.

Sabatella's second-inning sacrifice fly made it 2-0 before the Captains got a solo homer from Jose Torres in the third inning for a 3-0 advantage. It was Torres' fifth home run of the season, four have come against Fort Worth.

The Captains would add three runs in an adventurous sixth inning that saw the Cats commit three errors. Sabatella's two-run single was the big hit of the inning as Shreveport-Bossier extended its lead to 6-0.

In the seventh, the captains got an infield RBI single from Sabatella and a two-run double by second baseman Richard Paz for a 9-0 lead.

The only run for the Cats came in the eighth inning when John Allen drove home Cameron Blair with a single to right to narrow the lead to 9-1.

Despite coming into the game with a .200 average for the season and only one hit in 14 at bats against the Cats this year, Captains' catcher Tommy Bryant was 4-for-5 with two runs scored on the evening.

Shreveport-Bossier starter Thad Markray notched his first victory since June as he went six shutout innings, permitting five hits and striking out five. His record improved to 4-8.

Gwaltney (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed six runs, five earned on eight hits in five innings pitched.

The series and the Cats' six-game road trip both conclude on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. with Ryan Riddle on the hill for Fort Worth.
