Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs rallied from an early deficit Tuesday, beating Wichita 5-3 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 18-12 on the second half of the season.
The Saltdogs trailed 3-0 after five innings, but started the comeback in the sixth when Josh Burrus scored on a wild pitch, and Phil Hawke hit an RBI single to cut Wichita's lead to one. After escaping a jam in the top of the seventh, Lincoln put the first two men on in the bottom half of the inning, chasing Wingnuts starter Gabe Medina (8-5). Against reliever Justin Young, Shea McFeely bunted the runners into scoring position, and Brandon Jones drove them both in with a single to center, giving the Dogs a 4-3 lead. Lincoln added an insurance run in the eighth on Gavin Dickey's RBI single to set the final margin, and Chris Thompson pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 26th save.
The rally made a winner out of Lincoln reliever Adam Daniels (6-2), who retired all four batters he faced in relief and struck out three of them. Lincoln starter Tim Brown took no decision, despite giving up only one earned run in his 6.2 innings pitched. The Wingnuts scored a pair of unearned runs in the contest against Brown, who did not walk a batter and struck out a season-high six. Wichita out-hit Lincoln eleven to six on the night, but Brown pitched out of a couple early jams to keep the Dogs in the contest.
Dickey had the only multi-hit night of the game for the Saltdogs, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Hawke's RBI was his team-best 51st of the season.
The two teams play game three of their four-game series Wednesday night at 7:05. Lefty Zac Cline will make the start for Lincoln.
The current Saltdogs homestand runs through August 13. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
