Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (73-54, 33-25), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, squandered a two-run, ninth-inning lead Tuesday before falling 6-3 against the Lynchburg Hillcats at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans carried a 3-1 lead into the ninth and lost for just the second time this season when leading after eight innings.
Lefty Will Lamb (5-1) walked the bases loaded in the ninth inning and was saddled with the loss. A.J. Holland (5-9) grabbed the win out of the bullpen with three scoreless innings of work. Nate Hyatt got the final three outs and tallied his 12th save.
The Hillcats scored five total runs and sent eight men to the plate in the big ninth inning uprising. After Lamb walked the bases loaded, Ryan Harvey entered and gave up an RBI single to Emerson Landoni and a three-run double to Josh Elander.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Pelicans scored three straight runs to take a 3-1 advantage. Patrick Cantwell and Trever Adams each added RBI doubles in the fifth inning to give the Birds the lead. Cantwell and Adams each finished with three hits on the night.
Knuckleballer Kevin Pucetas started for Myrtle Beach and got a no decision, allowing one unearned run on four hits over five innings. The right-hander walked six and struck out four. Right-hander Cody Kendall fired three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Pelicans dropped four straight games against the Hillcats and finish the season series 8-12 against Lynchburg.
The Pelicans welcome the Salem Red Sox to TicketReturn.com Field Wednesday to begin a three-game series. Right-hander Alec Asher will be opposed by left-hander Mickey Pena. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com or by phone at 918-6000.
