FREDERICK, Md. (Aug. 20, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash received another dominant outing from Jake Cose and held on late to earn a split of their four-game set against the Frederick Keys with a 5-3 victory at Harry Grove Stadium on Tuesday night. The win propels the Dash to back-to-back wins for the first time since they had a four-game winning streak snapped on August 2.

Cose (6-4) continued his dominance in the month of August, tossing seven shutout innings for the third time in his four outings this month. The righty has allowed just one run in 28 innings of work in August for an ERA of 0.32, the lowest in the minors among hurlers with at least 20 frames of action. Tuesday also marked the sixth time in his last eight starts that Cose has matched his career high with seven innings.

With two outs in the second, the Dash (24-33, 62-65) took advantage of a Frederick (22-34, 56-69) defensive miscue to take the lead. The next three Winston-Salem hitters came up with run-producing hits as Jeremy Farrell and Grant Buckner both collected RBI singles. Micah Johnson capped things off with a two-run triple, which snapped an 0-for-15 funk.

Winston tacked on another two-out tally against Keys starter Zach Davies (7-7) in the fifth. Kevan Smith notched an RBI double, picking up his third hit of the contest.

In the eighth, Winston-Salem turned to reliever J.B. Wendelken, and the Keys finally dented the scoreboard. Wilson Betemit, who is on a big league rehab assignment, kicked off the scoring with an RBI single. Zane Chavez followed with a run-producing base hit of his own, and Wendelken later walked in a run to make it 5-3.

After the run-scoring free pass, the Dash turned to Brandon Hardin, who struck out pinch-hitter Michael Ohlman to keep the lead intact going into the ninth.

In the ninth, Hardin gave up consecutive hits with two outs to put the tying runs in scoring position, but the righty retried Chavez to end the game and collect his sixth save. This wraps up the season series between the two clubs, with Winston winning 12 if the 20 meetings.

The Dash continue their seven-game road trip Wednesday night as they open up a three-game series at Pfitzner Stadium against the Potomac Nationals, who have won 10 in a row. Right-hander Bryan Blough (9-10, 4.27 ERA) will be on the mound for Winston-Salem, while Potomac will counter with fellow righty Paul Demny (1-1, 4.60 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and the Pregame Dash begins at 6:50 on wsdash.com/broadcast.

The Dash's final homestand begins this Saturday with the final Burger King Value Pack Night of the season. For tickets or to order your Burger King Value Pack package, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
