FREDERICK, Md. - Four unearned runs in the second inning proved to be Frederick's undoing Tuesday night at Harry Grove Stadium, as the Keys fell 5-3 to Winston-Salem, their late rallies not enough to overcome the Dash.

Winston-Salem (23-34, 63-65) led the Keys (22-34, 56-59) 5-0 entering the eighth, but Baltimore Orioles rehabber Wilson Betemit ended the Dash's shutout hopes and ignited Frederick's offense with one out.

Betemit followed back-to-back walks with an RBI single to right to get Frederick on the board, Zane Chavez flared an RBI single the left in the following at-bat and two more walks, courtesy of reliever J.B. Wendelken, loaded the bases and then made the score 5-3. Michael Mosby drew the fourth free pass of the inning, picking up his eighth RBI of the season.

Brandon Hardin then relieved Wendelken and Michael Ohlman, who entered the game hitting .377 in August, pinch-hit for Jason Esposito. Hardin would win that battle, as he struck out Ohlman swinging on a fastball high and inside.

Frederick brought the winning run to the plate against Hardin in the bottom of the ninth in the form of Zane Chavez. After a two-out single by Tucker Nathans and double from Travis Adair, who pinch-ran for Betemit the inning prior, put runners on second and third, Chavez grounded out to second to end the game.

The win earned the Dash, who won the season series against the Keys 12-8, a four-game series split in their final match with Frederick this season. Keys starter Zach Davies (7-7) suffered the loss, despite allowing just an earned run and striking out eight batters. Jake Cose, the Dash starter, improved to 6-4 on the season, tossing seven scoreless frames.

Hardin earned his sixth save of the season. Betemit finished the night 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout.

A two-out error in the top of the second led to the Dash's big inning. After Kevan Smith led off with a single, Keys starter Zach Davies retired the next two batters in order and then got Josh Richmond to chop a grounder to third base. The ball kicked off the heel of Jason Esposito's glove, allowing Richmond to reach.

Jeremy Farrell and Grant Buckner then followed with RBI singles and Micah Johnson slugged a two-run triple to right-center, giving the Dash a 4-0 lead. All the runs scored in that inning were unearned.

Smith's two-out RBI double in the fifth drove in the Dash's fifth run and first earned run of the game.

Davies pitched six innings, struck out eight batters and allowed just one earned run, but did surrender nine hits. Cose allowed six hits over seven innings, walked one and struck out five.

In relief for the Keys, Jesse Beal pitched two scoreless innings, allowed two hits and fanned five and Matt Price pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Chavez and Mosby both recorded two hits for the Keys, who had 10 on the game. Adair's double was the only extra-base hit for Frederick and Johnny Ruettiger stole his team-leading 41st base of the season in the eighth inning.

Smith led the way with three hits for the Dash and Johnson went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.

The Keys welcome Wilmington to Harry Grove Stadium Wednesday for their final series against the Blue Rocks. Knuckleballer Zach Clark (0-6, 13.19) is scheduled to start the 7 p.m. game for Frederick against Wilmington right-hander Leonel Santiago (3-2, 5.40).
