Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

RHP Oliver Drake (2-2, 3.00) at RHP Barret Loux (4-3, 3.40)

QUITE A PACE: The Pelicans won their 30th game last night and are on pace with the remarkable 2008 club that wound up with an 89-51 record. Myrtle Beach reached the 30-win plateau in their 49th game, the same game that the Birds won their 30th in that magical 2008 season. The Pelicans won the division in both halves and reached the Mills Cup Championship Series. After splitting the first two games at home with the Potomac Nationals, the Birds lost a heartbreaker in game three before the P-Nats closed them out in game four to take the title.

NEW POWER SOURCE: Santiago Chirino's three-run blast in the second inning yesterday not only turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead, it was the first home run of his professional career. The Punto Fijo, Venezuela native had batted .280 over his first two-plus seasons as a Rangers minor leaguer (09 - DSL 2010 - AZL/Spokane), but had not hit one out in 627 plate appearances. The shot was one of three hits on the night, Chirino now has four three-hit games this season to lead the club in games with more than two hits.
