THE HILLCATS: Sunday, the Hillcats swept both games of a double-header from the Potomac Nationals...Lynchburg took game one 3-2 and game two 5-2...The Hillcats sit in third place in the Carolina League Northern Division, now 7.0 games back of the first place Wilmington Blue Rocks...
VS. SALEM: The Hillcats are 0-6 against the Red Sox this season...The two teams have met four times in Salem and twice in Lynchburg...Lynchburg has been outscored 43-17 in the first six games...
LET'S PLAY TWO: Lynchburg swept two double-headers from the Potomac Nationals over the weekend at Pfitzer Stadium...The Hilcats lead nearly the entire weekend, trailing only 1-0 after the bottom of the first in game two Saturday, and 2-0 after the bottom of the first in game two Sunday, but Lynchburg erased both deficits the very next frame in both contests...Lynchburg is now 6-0 in three double-headers this season...The 'Cats swept their first double-header this season in Frederick on April 23 (3-0, 2-1)...
DUST OFF THE BROOM STICKS: The Hillcats completed their first sweep of the season taking four games for the Nationals Saturday and Sunday...The 'Cats had failed in three prior sweep chances...Most recently, the 'Cats lost to the Winston-Salem Dash last Wednesday in game three of the series...It was the third chance for Lynchburg to complete a sweep this season, and first attempt at home...The first opportunity was a possible four-game sweep in Frederick April 21-24 but the 'Cats fell short 2-1 in the finale...The next opportunity came on the road again, in Wilmington May 2-4, but the Blue Rocks took game three 7-3 over Lynchburg...The loss in the finale brings the Hillcats record to 2-11 in the final game of a series this season...The 'Cats have another chance to sweep today if they can yet again take both games from Potomac...
PUT A CORK IN IT ZANE!: It's a walk-off...The Hillcats won in their final at-bat two nights in a row, Monday and Tuesday...INF Joe Leonard drove in the game winner Monday night in the bottom of the 11th on a sacrifice fly and the 'Cats won 2-1...Wednesday night, Lynchburg ended the game in regulation with a three-run ninth after being down 3-1...OF Keenan Wiley's bases clearing triple ended the game...It was the first win for the Hillcats this season when trailing after eight innings, and it was the Dash's first loss when ahead after eight frames...Lynchburg joined Kinston, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem, as the only teams in the league with wins after being behind heading into the ninth...
STAY HOT 'CATS: Lynchburg snapped a five-game losing streak two Sundays ago, their longest since dropping 10 in a row April 10-20...Since that win, the 'Cats have won seven of eight, taking two of three from Winston-Salem at home last Monday-Wednesday, and four from Potomac over the weekend...It is the best eight-game stretch of the season for the Hillcats...Their current four-game winning streak is the longest streak they've had all season...In fact, they had only won three in a row twice before this four-game streak...During the past eight games, the 'Cats have won three one-run games, but they've also won two five-run ball games...The pitching has been fantastic limiting the opposition to three or less runs in five of the seven wins...
BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes RHP Arodys Vizcaino (7), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...Vizcaino was tabbed the 93rd best prospect in all of baseball by BA...
BACK WITH A VENGEANCE: OF Adam Milligan was hitting just .224 (19-for-85) before hitting the disabled list with a pulled hamstring, which he injured on May 7...Since returning to action May 18, he has hit .333 (14-for-42)...He has a hit in nine of 12 games since coming back, with five two-hit games...He has driven in 12 runs, scored seven, and hit two home runs in those 12 contests...Those 12 RBI more than doubled his season total, as he had driven in just 10 in his first 23 games of the season...He now has seven long balls on the season, the second most on the team behind Joey Terdoslavich (11)...He has also raised season batting average by .36 points to an even .260 (33-for-127)...
LYNCHBURG WANTS YOU: The season is just one-third over, and the Hillcats have already had 39 different players active on the roster in 2011...Four original Hillcats have been promoted to AA-Mississippi, with one coming back in LHP Matt Crim...Injuries have been the bigger factor, as 10 players have hit the disabled list after donning a Hillcats uniform this season...C Braeden Schlehuber and OF Geraldo Rodriguez were activated from the DL over the weekend...To make room, C Ryan Delgado was transferred back to Danville, and INF Kyle Davis was assigned to Low-A Rome....RHP Arodys Vizcaino has been promoted to AA-Mississippi, while LHP Matt Crim returns from AA bringing the total for the Hillcats' transactions this season to 46...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER : LHP Drake Britton was selected in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft by the Red Sox out of Tomball (TX) High School...Coming into the 2011 season, was ranked as Boston's second best pitching prospect and the third best overall prospect by Baseball America...Pitched five innings, giving up three runs, against Lynchburg on 4/20 and did not have a decision...Currently 1-5 with a 6.37 ERA...
