Frederick Keys News Release

Following a four-game sweep of Salem this weekend, the Keys returned home on Monday afternoon and kept the good times rolling as they defeated the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 8-4. The Pelicans scored three runs in the first inning but Frederick responded scoring all eight of their runs between the second and fifth inning. With the win, the Keys improved to 29-21 and are now in sole position of first-place in the Northern Division of the Carolina League.

Naval Academy product, RHP Oliver Drake, got the start for Frederick on Memorial Day. After the Pelicans touched Drake up for three runs in the first inning, he responded by surrendered just one run over the next five. On the afternoon, Drake allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings and struck out seven.

Trailing Myrtle Beach by three entering the second, the Keys scored two runs in the inning off RHP Barret Loux. 3B Dale Mollenhauer doubled home DH Tyler Townsend for the first run of the inning. 1B Tyler Kolodny scored later in the inning on a wild pitch by Loux.

The Keys tied the game up in the third when Loux uncorked another wild pitch that allowed CF Steve Bumbry to score. Loux was pulled after just 2.2 innings of work on Monday.

Frederick jumped in front of the Pelicans with a four-run fourth. With the bases loaded and one down, LF Kipp Schutz grounded out to first but SS Garabez Rosa scored on the play. Tyler Townsend followed up with a two-run single and Tyler Kolodny capped off the inning with a RBI single to centerfield.

The Pelicans and Keys traded homers in the fifth. CF Jared Hoying led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run but RF Jacob Julius responded with a solo shot off LHP Kasey Kiker. Julius' third homer of the season gave Frederick an 8-4 lead after five innings.

RHP Chris Petrini closed out Monday's contest with three scoreless innings of relief. Petrini notched his first save of the year while Drake improved to 3-2 on the season.

The Keys and Pelicans will play game two of the four-game series on Tuesday night. LHP Nick Haughian (1-2, 5.01) gets the nod for Frederick while Myrtle Beach will turn to LHP Robbie Ross (5-1, 2.88). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
