Kinston Indians News Release


Kinston begins the day in second place in the Carolina League Southern Division, five games behind Myrtle Beach. The Indians have won 10 of their last 12 games and continue the homestand with a special 4:30 pm start at Historic Grainger Stadium. The game begins a stretch of 22 games in 21 days (without a scheduled off day) to end the first half!

Kinston Wins Fourth Straight Series - The K-Tribe won Saturday's rubber match against Winston-Salem to set the team's 2011 high mark with four straight series wins. The K-Tribe has now won 10 out of their last 12 games. Kinston broke out of a two run tie with a three run seventh inning. Kinston starter Toru Murata left in the first inning and Kinston's trio of Chris Jones, Tyler Sturdevant and Preston Guilmet combined to throw the rest of the game and pick up the win.

Home Stretch - Tied for second and just 5 1/2 games behind first place Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division, Kinston begins a stretch of 22 games in 21 days without a scheduled off day to end the first half. Kinston plays eight of their next 11 games against Wilmington, the first place team in the Northern Division with the second best record in the Carolina League.

Tale of Two Months - The K-Tribe has dramatically reversed its April fortunes in the current month. Kinston has won four straight series and turned in a May record of 16-10, ranking second in the league behind Frederick's mark of 18-10. Kinston's .228 batting average ranks worst in the league but the Tribe has a 17-14 record in games decided by three runs or less. Kinston finished April at 8-14, only Lynchburg had fewer wins in April at 7-13
